A Secret Feast of the Kumano Navy

This premium tour traces the path of the Kumano Navy, heroes of the Genpei War. Cruise the waters they once crossed, then enter the Sandanbeki Caves, their stronghold reserved for you, to enjoy traditional performance and cocktails crafted from local flavors. An unforgettable night awaits.

The tense waters
As you draw near the towering Sandanbeki Cliffs, the sheer rock walls rise before you, waves crashing violently at their base. Beneath these cliffs lie the hidden caves that once served as the Navy’s stronghold. The closer you come, the more the power of sea and stone closes in—echoing the tense approach of warriors bound for battle.

Landing
Victorious from battle, the Kumano Navy returned to their stronghold in the Sandanbeki Caves. On this tour, you will follow in their wake—not simply gazing from above as ordinary visitors do, but approaching the cliffs by boat as the warriors once did.
The moment the cavern looms before you, waves crashing at the base of the towering rock, you are swept into the very scene of their landing. It feels as if you, too, are stepping ashore with the fleet, caught between triumph and tension at the edge of history.

Revelry in Victory
With cups of sake in hand, the warriors begin their feast, voices echoing through the cave. To honor the Kumano Navy for their valor, yamabushi mountain ascetics — long connected with the fleet through bonds of faith and friendship—step forward to offer their performance.
What starts as simple celebration soon reveals something deeper: the spiritual bond that once united the warriors of the sea with the guardians of the mountains.

Yatagarasu
Divine Messenger of Kumano

The three-legged crow of legend, a symbol of guidance and sacred protector of Kumano, takes form in this spiritual cocktail, where every ingredient holds auspicious meaning.
Purity shines through gin infused with sakaki leaves, layered with the deep black of Kishu binchōtan charcoal to ward off evil. Peach adds sweetness, jabara citrus brings cleansing brightness, and a whisper of wasabi sharpens the senses. Sparkling bubbles lift the divine spirit skyward. A garnish of black feathers captures the very moment Yatagarasu descends from the heavens.

Kumano Navy
Night Banquet on the Sea

A Sengoku-era romance in a glass, inspired by the legendary Kumano Navy—fearless seafarers who braved the turbulent waves of war. Their daring spirit, sharp wit, and proud soul are captured here in bold flavors and striking presentation.
Kishu whisky infused with bonito carries a smoky ocean breeze and deep umami, enriched by the richness of tomato. The sharp spice of budō-sanshō and a hint of lemon evoke the tension of battle at sea, while umami bitters bring balance and depth. Wrapped in seaweed along the rim like the hull of a warship, and finished with shaved bonito — an emblem of pride, a blessing from the sea.

Benzaiten
Guardian of Safe Voyages

A prayer for safe passage across distant seas, offered to Benzaiten since ancient times, embodied here as a serene and soulful cocktail.
The gentle tartness of plum spirits blends with the clarity of chilled dashi umami, while plum vinegar and salt touch the tongue like a sea breeze. Umami bitters add depth, with garnishes of hirome kelp and plum symbolizing purity and protection.
Like breathing calmly on a boat adrift on a still sea, this cocktail offers tranquility and guidance for every journey.
